This week, Pastor Kevin Brown uses Ahab (King of Israel)’s fatal mistake in ignoring the prophet Micaiah’s warning (1 Kings 22:14) to highlight an important rule in our obedience to God: we must know the devil’s schemes, so he doesn’t get a foothold in our lives. Pastor Brown explains that Ahab’s mistake was in opening himself up to bad counsel from his many prophets that wasn’t coming from God: “You got 400 prophets on your payroll and none of them are telling you the truth… Because Ahab was doing evil in the sight of the Lord, he opened himself up to a demonic spirit.” And the King of Judah’s – who joined Ahab in battle – like this, “After hearing the Word of the Lord from the prophet… Why would you go? Why would you follow somebody you know is going the wrong way? There’s nothing good that can come of that.” Listen as Pastor Brown summarizes our takeaway from these verses, “That’s why the Bible tells us we have to know Satan’s devices. We have to know him, so he doesn’t get an advantage over us… How does that happen? We open up doors. We open up doors we don’t even realize we’re opening. And we’re starting to get counsel that’s not coming from heaven. We get counsel that’s coming from the Enemy.”
