This year, a Lowcountry nonprofit, Postpartum Support Charleston is celebrating its 25 anniversary. Mother’s Day Weekend this group will hold a major fundraising event, their 22nd annual “Mom’s Run” at Phillip Simmons High School. Ealine DeaKayne, the Executive Director or Postpartum Support Charleston shared what the definition of “postpartum depression” is and how and when it effects women who have experience childbirth. While there may be some similarities between PTDS and postpartum depression, the two are not really alike. DeaKayne discussed some of the challenges women with Postpartum Depression face, and what her organization does to assist. She also provided specifics on the upcoming “Mom’s Run” including how to enter and volunteer and how the non-profit benefits from hosting the event.

SEGMENT #2: Charleston County Parks & Recreation Dept.

With spring here, the number of events at programs at the Charleston County Parks increases. The Parks and Recreation Department’s first major event of 2025 is the annual Lowcountry Cajun Festival on Saturday, April 12. Sarah Reynolds, the Parks and Recreation Department’s PIO provided all the details on the James Island County Park event. Reynolds also provided information on other upcoming events at the various country parks, including Moonlight Mixers, Starlight and Sunrise Yoga, SK* Charleston Luau & Bowl Jam and the upcoming fishing tournaments. The PIO also shared information about their growing number of inclusive events as well as the benefits of the “Gold Pass” the department offers to county residents.
