Lowcountry Forever: Small Business Expo & Water Missions – Feb. 22, 2026

Ruby Sunshine is a restaurant with two Lowcountry locations, owned by the Ruby Slipper Restaurant Group in New Orleans. The group is one of the small businesses that helps drive our nation’s economy. For the second consecutive year, Ruby Sunshine is hosting a Small Business Expo on February 25th. The Expo is for both educating small business owners as well as serving as a networking opportunity. Carrie Cranford from the Ruby Slipper Restaurant Group spoke about how important small businesses are to the Lowcountry and shared how the idea of the Expo came about and why it was important for them to host it. Cranford shared what would be happening at the Expo and how individuals and/or business can attend the free event and why and how Ruby Sunshine is able to present the Expo free.

GUEST: Mary Howell, senior Manager of Charleston Community Engagement
ISSUE: Clean Drinking Water
Water Missions is a non-profit formed in Charleston which builds sustainable safe water solutions for people in developing countries, refugee camps, and disaster areas. To date, Water Missions has helped more than 8 million people in 65 countries. Mary Howell, the senior Manager of Charleston Community Engagement for Water Missions provided the history of this charity and shared some specifics of instances where Water Missions has helped, as well as some of her own personal experiences. Their biggest fundraiser of the year, the 20th annual Walk for Water will take place in North Charleston’s Riverfront Park on Saturday, March 21st. Howell described the event, which includes carrying a bucket 3 miles to mimic what people in 3rd world nations do daily for water. She provided specifics on how individuals can participate and/or volunteer to assist Water Missions.
