Cardiovascular disease is a problem across the nation, including in the construction industry. Among the contributing factors are long hours, stress, tobacco use and poor nutrition. In response, the American Heart Association has created their “Hard Hats with Hearts” year-round campaign that targets the construction industry. Keith Horton of Frampton Construction in Ladson is the 2026 Chairperson for the campaign and spoke about how his company became involved and what the program is doing to address issues in his industry. He shared that the response to the program has been very positive and how they’ve added to the safety on worksites with CRP training and AEDs are now on every job site. Horton spoke of the support of local companies in the program, and the October networking event that concludes his chairmanship of the campaign.
